“DR LONELINESS” DIES AT 66

Dr John T. Cacioppo, the father of the burgeoning field of Social Neuroscience, and the researcher who confirmed the deadly impact of loneliness on health a well-being, has died at the age of 66.

Author of many reports and papers, and a seminal book, Loneliness: Human Nature and the Need for Social Connection, Dr Cacioppo came to regard loneliness partly as a disease –  contagious, inheritable and quite literally damaging to the heart –  as well as a biological signal akin to hunger.
